This ceramics class is designed for the beginner and intermediate levels. Focus will be on beginning wheel throwing techniques such as centering, opening, pulling, shaping, trimming, and finishing, as well as five glaze applications. Once students feel they're ready, intermediate level projects will include, but not be limited to, decorative projects such as dinnerware, teapots, wall hangings, lidded jars, casseroles, clocks, lamps, etc. Clay will be provided as needed, up to 50 lbs. along with open studio time. This class will explore various decorating techniques such as carving, faceting, and image transfer. We’ll explore altering and assembling techniques and experiment with slips and stains. We’ll practice throwing off the hump and work on projects such as lidded vessels, various vases and bowls, and try our hand at throwing large forms on the wheel. Glazing techniques will also be explored such as multi-layering, stone glazing, bubble glazing, and more. Clay will be provided as needed, up to 50 lbs. along with open studio time. Are you ready to expand your creative horizons and have your objects change, develop, morph and transform? In this class, we will be exploring several types of Raku firing. You will learn different surface treatments such as horsehair, feathers, naked raku, saggar firing, ferric chloride surface treatments, and other bare clay techniques. Students will learn basic jewelry-making techniques. Some of the skills covered will be making jump rings and assembling them, making clasps, piercing, sawing, filing, sanding, buffing, patina, soldering and rivets. In class, we will make a wire-wrapped bangle, pin, pierced pendant, sweat-soldered pendant or keychain, rivet piece, and chainmaille earrings. Copper and brass materials to complete class projects are provided. After the class project is completed, other materials will be available for purchase. There may be an upcharge for premium materials. Seating is limited to 6 so register early!

We are offering a two-hour pottery experience on the potter's wheel. This session will introduce you to the basic skills of working with clay on the potter’s wheel through demonstrations and the help you need to guide you through this hands-on experience.
The lesson will include all the tools and clay you will need. No previous experience is required. At the end of the session you can choose the glaze of your choice and the MAC will complete your pieces and let you know when they're ready for pickup. Ages 16 and up. By appointment only.

Join us at the MAC on a Friday evening for a pottery extravaganza! During this 3-hour event, participants will make one hand-built piece and two wheel thrown pieces. Participants will then select glazes for their pieces. The MAC will finish the pieces and call when they’re ready for pickup. Ages 16 and up.

Group size: minimum 8, maximum 20.
