Studio Artist — Ceramics
Gina Criaris (ginagypsy_creations) is a freelance artist based in Michigan with a BFA from Eastern Michigan University (1996), concentrating in painting with studies in photography. Her artistic perspective was shaped through international study across the UK, Europe, the Mediterranean, and the Middle East, and continued studies in Spain. In 2017 she discovered pottery — a meditative, transformative practice she describes as becoming "one with the clay." Working in both wheel-throwing and hand-building, she creates one-of-a-kind pieces with rich, tactile surfaces shaped by carving, stamping, and impressions from natural elements. Her intuitive glazing — dipping, spraying, sponging, and hand-painting with underglazes — echoes her fine art painting roots.

Studio Artist — Hand-Built Ceramics
By day, Deb works as a clinical social worker — a vocation rooted in attentiveness, in holding space, in the careful work of being present with another person. It is perhaps no coincidence that she found her way to clay. Her introduction to ceramics came through studio art courses at Schoolcraft College, while exploring an art therapy degree. The degree never materialized, but the clay did. Similar to her other work, clay requires openness, patience and presence. For over a decade Deb has worked out of a local studio, developing a practice that is as much about process as product. Primarily a hand builder, she uses techniques including coil and slab construction that is imbedded with care and deliberateness. Four years ago, Deb began sharing her work publicly through the Annual Potter's Market — a place of connection between artist and collector, where objects find their people. Each piece is carefully made, aiming for quality and functionality. Her wares include texture, color, a bit of whimsy and in some cases, even a dash of naughty.
